months 4 – 6: listen to your body

If you’ve been trying to conceive for over three months to no avail, there’s no cause for concern. In fact, there’s only about a 20% to 25% chance that an average couple will conceive in any given month.1 So although you’re not alone, after three months of romance and spontaneity it’s time to get more proactive and practical. By paying closer attention to the signs your body gives you about your ovulation cycle, you can boost your chances of conceiving over the next several months.

The likelihood of conceiving declines with age. So it is prudent for women in their mid- to late 30s and early 40s to use their fertile signs to their advantage earlier on. Women getting pregnant in later years should start tracking their fertile signs as soon as they decide to try to get pregnant.

Just as you need to understand the rules of a game to win, you should start with understanding your ovulation cycle in order to boost your chances of getting pregnant. Timing your best chances will then depend on the patterns of your own ovulation cycle. Luckily, your body gives many physical clues, or fertility signs, about the nature of your cycle. Charting your fertility signs won’t just help you understand your cycle, but may also help you predict when you’re most fertile, so you can be sure you’re having sex at the most optimal time of the month.
