initial steps

For many couples experiencing infertility, the testing process is relatively straightforward. However, if your doctor cannot determine a cause after the first round of tests, additional tests may be needed until a diagnosis is made. These additional tests are different for women and men and will likely require additional visits.

Three fundamental components of fertility testing include:

  • Documentation of ovulation
  • Evaluation of sperm
  • Evaluation of reproductive anatomy to be sure the egg can meet the sperm and fertilize

Knowing what to expect in the first consultation visit may make this experience a little easier. Here we outline the routine tests you and your partner will have during infertility evaluation. There is also information about some tests you can do at home.
